Pressotherapy
A suit with chambers fills with air in sequence and applies controlled pressure from the periphery towards the heart. It is lymphatic drainage with mechanical help — painless and relaxing.
How it works
You put on a special suit that looks like high boots and covers the legs and abdomen — in some cases the arms as well. The machine fills the chambers of the suit with air, in a set order and at a controlled pressure.
The movement always goes from the periphery towards the centre: the pressure pushes the lymph and the venous blood towards the heart. It is the same logic as manual lymphatic drainage, with the difference that the rhythm and the intensity stay constant throughout the session.
What it improves
- ✓Fluid retention — swelling in the legs and the feeling of heaviness often subside from the very first session.
- ✓The look of cellulite — decongesting the tissues gradually smooths the texture of the skin on the thighs and buttocks.
- ✓Hours on your feet — if you stand or sit for many hours, the relief at the end of the day is the most noticeable gain.
- ✓After training — it is widely used to relax the legs after intense exercise.
What the session is like
- Checking your history
Before the first session we go through the contraindications together. Without that we do not start, however simple the method may look.
- Putting on the suit
You lie down in comfortable clothes and put on the suit. We set the pressure at the level that is comfortable for you.
- Duration
From 30 to 45 minutes. Most people describe it as relaxing and quite a few fall asleep.
- After
You get up and carry on with your day. It is a good idea to drink water and walk a little.
How many sessions and what to expect
The usual plan is 8 to 10 sessions, twice a week. Relief from swelling comes early; a change in the texture of the skin needs the whole cycle.
What pressotherapy does not do
It does not make you slimmer. The centimetres that come off in the first sessions are fluid retention, not fat, and they come back if nothing changes in your diet and your movement.
It does not "eliminate toxins". What it does is make lymphatic drainage easier; elimination is done by the kidneys and the liver, as it always is.
It is not a treatment for venous or lymphatic disease. If you have a diagnosis from a doctor, pressotherapy is only done with their approval and following the protocol they set.
When it cannot be done
The method is gentle, but it applies real pressure to the circulatory system. There are conditions in which we do not use it.
- ✓Thrombosis — active thrombosis or a history of thrombosis — we do not go ahead.
- ✓Heart problems — the increased venous return puts a load on the heart; approval from your cardiologist is needed.
- ✓Acute phlebitis — with active inflammation of the veins, pressure is contraindicated.
- ✓Pregnancy — it is not done, unless your doctor explicitly permits it and then only on the legs.
Tell us your whole history, even if something seems irrelevant to you. If there is the slightest doubt, we ask for a medical opinion before the first session.
Combinations with other treatments
Pressotherapy combines naturally with BIOsphere and with body RF, because each of them works at a different level: the first decongests the lymphatic system, the other two work on the contour and on firming. All three systems are here in our centre.
What makes sense for you is something we decide at the assessment, after we have gone through your history. We do not sell ready-made combinations.
Questions & Answers
What most people ask, answered briefly and clearly.
Does it hurt?
No. The pressure is noticeable but adjustable and most people find it relaxing. If at some point it bothers you, you say so and we reduce it straight away.
Will I lose centimetres?
In the first sessions usually yes, and it is mostly fluid. If you want a lasting reduction, pressotherapy works as support for a plan of diet and movement, not as a substitute for it.
Can I have pressotherapy during pregnancy?
Not on our initiative. It is done only if your doctor explicitly permits it and then only on the legs. Without their approval we do not start.
I have varicose veins. Can I have it?
It depends on the picture. With mild thread veins there is usually no issue, but with phlebitis or a history of thrombosis we do not go ahead. We need your doctor's opinion before the first session.
How long does the result last?
The relief from one session lasts for days. A steadier improvement needs the whole cycle and depends on how many hours you spend on your feet, on your diet and on your movement.
What do I wear?
Comfortable clothes. The suit is worn over light clothing, you do not need to undress and no product is applied to the skin.
