Summer and laser hair removal: what really applies

Summer and laser hair removal: what really applies

Summer & Sun By the BFI Team · 5′ read · Updated: July 2026

"You cannot have laser in the summer" — the most persistent myth in hair removal. With our system, you can, as normal. Here is why.

Where the myth came from

Laser targets melanin — and tanned skin has more of it. With older technologies this meant a real risk of irritation, which is why the rule "no laser in the summer" became dogma. The myth survived; the technology moved on.

What holds true with our system

The system we use does not require you to stay out of the sun. You do not have to cancel a holiday, avoid the sea or count weeks before and after each session. Your programme runs as normal all year round.

What still matters

  • ✓Tell us if you have tanned recently — it is not an obstacle, but we adjust the settings accordingly.
  • ✓After the session, the skin needs moisturising and sunscreen. Not for the laser — for the skin itself.
  • ✓No sauna, steam bath or heavy sweating for 24–48 hours.
  • ✓Shave 24 hours before, no root hair removal for 4 weeks. Those never change.

The summer plan

Because there is no sun restriction, the only thing that counts is being consistent with the intervals. Keep your rhythm through the summer too — that way you reach the next season with most of the work done, instead of starting from scratch every autumn.

And if you have tanned deeply?

You simply tell our team before the session. The skin is assessed at every visit and the settings are adapted to the data of the day — that is our job, not your worry.
