Skin care after laser: 7 rules for the first 48 hours

Skin Care By the BFI Team · 4′ read · Updated: July 2026

90% of flawless healing is decided in the first 48 hours after the session. Seven simple rules — and your skin will thank you.

The 7 rules

  • 1. Moisturise: a gentle, fragrance-free cream 2–3 times a day.
  • 2. SPF 50: on every exposed area, reapplied every 3–4 hours.
  • 3. Lukewarm showers: no hot water, sauna or hammam for 48 hours.
  • 4. No rubbing: no exfoliation, sponges or active acids for 3–5 days.
  • 5. Loose clothing: avoid anything that rubs the freshly treated area.
  • 6. No intense exercise: sweat irritates — allow a 24–48 hour pause.
  • 7. Let the hairs shed on their own: do not pull — they are shed naturally within 1–3 weeks.

What is normal to see

Mild redness and a feeling of warm skin for a few hours are entirely expected — they settle on their own. Slight tenderness to the touch on the first day as well.
